Our Mission

Ypsi, can I share? is the vision of local activist, Gail Summerhill, who was inspired when meeting Congressman John Lewis and talking about the food they loved growing up. Years later, she wrote to Rep. Lewis to ask for advice on how to make change here in Washtenaw County. When she received a personal letter back encouraging her to “get into some necessary trouble”, she understood what her purpose was. Now that he is gone, we dedicate this site to his memory and our work to his legacy.

Ypsi can I share? is a grass roots advocacy group with a mission to uncover and share information that we believe may be suppressed on purpose. Our aim is to bring information to audiences typically excluded by our government, media, and other mainstream sources.

Our focus is the area of Eastern Washtenaw County, Michigan, commonly referred to as Ypsilanti, but actually made up of four distinct municipalities. These are the City of Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti Township, Pittsfield Township, and Superior Township.

These communities have long been seen as an after thought when it comes to allocating resources and information across the county. All Ypsi can I share? initiatives have the goal of sharing information so that we can advocate for a more equitable system for everyone.
