The Biden COVID Plan in Action
THANK YOU, WASHTENAW COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT,
FOR YOUR EFFORTS REGARDING THE SCHEDULING OF COVID VACCINES IN YPSILANTI
President Joe Biden Knows What the Ypsilanti Community Needs as described in his
NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR THE COVID-19 RESPONSE AND PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS
January 22, 2021
As this pandemic continues, please follow President Biden’s plan for us:
The following bullet points are direct quotes that capture the goal and spirit of plan which is to be sure that all people of color, the disadvantaged and the disenfranchised are not left behind in beating the COVID pandemic.
We publish these goals to empower residents to measure the actions of our local officials against the Biden plan. Our local officials are working very, very hard in these unprecedented times. But we need to remember that they still work for you and your family. A resource applied to Ann Arbor or Western Washtenaw, may be sufficient in those communities. Ypsilanti, which faced complex health and economic equity challenges well before this pandemic, needs more than equal resources. We need alternative, versatile, nimble solutions tailored to the reality of our lives. We believe the Biden plan understands this.
Ask yourself, do I see these goals being put into action for ALL of us in Ypsilanti?
Restore trust with the American people by providing a response not driven by politics
Identify high risk communities, track resource distribution and evaluate effectiveness
Focus on hard to reach and high-risk populations and hardest hit communities: African American, Hispanics, women, seniors, Native Americans, the incarcerated, under-served communities, disabled, child care providers, health care providers, nursing/group homes, the homeless, essential workers, sexual orientation, gender identity
Develop and provide a public education program with simple, clear and accessible information that at-risk populations can easily understand.
Actively address and dispel disinformation and misinformation
Address vaccine hesitancy
Ensure no out-of-pocket costs
Structural inequality and systemic racism help drive COVID-19 inequities
Be racially and culturally competent building public confidence
People of color are more likely to become sick and die of COVID-19 due to systemic and structural racism; this disparate impact is unrelenting; always advance equity
Support communities most at risk for COVID 19 which are disproportionately made up of people of color
